As a therapist, I place great importance on providing therapy that honors the uniqueness, potential, and diversity of individuals, couples and families here in Utah. I see therapy as a form of art that requires compassion, knowledge, skill, perspective, and empathy. The step to seek out help through counseling is a sign of courage and wisdom and those efforts to change your life is a sign of a resolve not to give up.
Individual therapy involves working on a one-on-one basis to plan and to create positive changes in your life. I provide individual therapy for children, adolescents, and adults. The sessions may focus on current or past problems, experiences, thoughts, feelings, or relationships. This may involve learning new skills, trying out new behaviors, working through old issues, grieving, or letting go of things that no longer serve health or well-being. I believe in helping you make a change instead of just talking about the change. I love to keep my clients accountable.
Marriage therapy or couples counseling is designed to help you work through relationship or communication problems and create emotional closeness. I help couples understand the emotional needs of each partner, meet each other’s need, and learn tools to negotiate differences, problem solve and work through conflict in a healthier way to gain and maintain a deeper level of intimacy and closeness.
Through my family therapy sessions your family can resolve conflict, improve communication, problem solve together, and create harmony in your home. Family relationships are vital to the well-being of individuals. When families can respond to each other’s emotional needs, respect differences, and work through difficult feelings families become stronger.
How I perform counseling and therapy has evolved over the years, but one thing has not changed, which is my deep respect and compassion for individuals, couples and families. I find my effectiveness in therapy not only comes from my training, but often more importantly it is in the way of helping clients feel comfortable, understood, and helping develop a therapeutic trusting relationship which can provide the support for making important life changes in situations such as when they are faced with anxiety, depression, couples conflict, addiction or other issues.
My approach is focused on promoting your insight about why you think, feel and react the way you do, to support you to take advantage of your own skills and potential and to guide you on taking care of your emotional needs and wounds that are not allowing you to mindfully and gently take good care of your life and your relationships with others.
